Women’s Transitional Housing
The Sponsors Women’s Program was founded in December, 1993, with just five residential beds for women. Today it offers transitional housing for up to 19 women: 14 beds in the basic program and five beds in the women’s Honors Program. The program also serves women with children, and in certain situations women live with their dependents on-site. Women’s Sponsors is located at 767 West 8th Avenue, Eugene, Oregon.
Priority is given to women being released from prison, however, women from Lane County Jail and women from the community who are coping with the challenges of a criminal history may also apply.
The staff at Women’s Sponsors offers structure and support to address the complex issues facing female clients, ranging from substance abuse, domestic violence, loss of children and trauma. The average length of residential program participation is three months — one month longer than in the Sponsors Men’s Program. This extra time is provided to allow for women’s lower wage earning capacity.
Participants are required to obtain full-time employment within a few weeks or be currently attending college with financial aid, or a full-time combination of both. Once employed, residents must place at least 50% of all earnings in secured savings account to be applied towards stable housing upon program completion. Additionally, participants must submit to drug/alcohol urinalysis testing a minimum of twice weekly and comply with all parole and/or probation requirements. Many high risk clients attend Moral Recognition Therapy classes, or drug and alcohol diversion groups, while at Women’s Sponsors.
Clients who successfully complete the program are offered voluntary case management services which include random UA’s, continued assistance with budgeting, and support services as needed. Clients are encouraged to stay involved with Sponsors continued support, which includes on-going participation in our Mentorship Program.
